As a donor, you have the opportunity to create a scholarship that aligns with your own principles, and one that can bear your name or the name of someone you cherish. 

DRBU’s Donor-Sponsored Scholarship Program offers an opportunity to not only provide a life-changing education but also to create positive karmic outcomes for the donors. Your generosity will help build the next generation of Buddhist scholars, monks, and lay practitioners who will carry teachings into the world. By sponsoring a scholarship, you support a future grounded in wisdom, compassion, and the preservation of Buddhist values.

Program Details

The Donor-Sponsored Scholarship Program provides an opportunity for supporters to:

• Name the Scholarship: You may name the scholarship in your own name, your family’s name, the name of a loved one, or in honor of a cause or figure from the Buddhist tradition that holds significance to you.
• Specify the Criteria: You can customize the scholarship by setting criteria based on program level (e.g. Bachelor’s vs Master’s program), international students, monastic status, or financial need, thereby supporting students who most closely align with your values.
• Flexible Donation Options: Donations can be made as a one-time gift or as a recurring donation. Whether funding a single year or the full duration of a student’s program, each donation will directly cover the tuition & fees of students dedicated to cultivating both academic and spiritual development. 

Donation Structure

To accommodate a range of donor preferences, we offer flexible donation options that respect the principle of mindful generosity (note tuition may change in future academic years):

• Single-Year Scholarships: Fund a student’s tuition for a single academic year, providing flexibility and the opportunity for yearly contributions.
  • BA year, $21K
  • MA year, $14K
• Full-Program Scholarships: For those seeking to support a student’s entire academic and spiritual journey, multi-year scholarships can be established to cover the duration of their program. This can be a single donation or given in two or four installments.
  • BA program, $84K
  • MA program, $28K
• Endowed Scholarships: For donors interested in creating a lasting legacy, endowed scholarships generate annual awards in perpetuity, ensuring your contribution will benefit students for generations to come. An endowment could support multiple scholarships, as determined by the donors and Office of Development.
  • Minimum of $500,000

When appropriate, scholarship recipients may share their gratitude through notes or video messages, providing a glimpse into the positive difference your support makes. Student and donor information is always protected to ensure dignity and privacy.
