The DRBU Summer Program in Contemplative Philosophy is a two-week college-level program for high school students based in Ukiah, California. 

The program is inspired by DRBU’s mission, which is to activate inherent wisdom and educate the whole person. We view education not as something isolated in the classroom, but as something that happens continually in every moment of our lives, including how we live individually and how we live in community alongside one another. 

At the heart of the program are the Seminar, the Contemplative Exercise, and the Arts Workshop. Outside of these activities, students spend time participating in fun electives, exploring the beautiful natural setting of Northern California, and hanging out with other deep thinkers.

The Seminar

The Seminar gives you the opportunity to read, reflect on, and discuss great books from the world’s various philosophical, spiritual, and literary traditions. The purpose is not to provide answers, but to ignite curiosity, and encourage independent thought.

The Contemplative Exercise

In the Contemplative Exercise you have the opportunity to engage with the same questions explored in Seminar, but through the lens of embodied contemplative practice rather than intellectual inquiry. 

The Arts Workshop

The Arts Workshop provides the opportunity to embody the ideas and questions you explore in Seminar through your own creative process. By engaging in various practices such as writing, drawing, and theater, you will delve into the meditative aspect of art and explore art-making as a form of expression and mindfulness.
