1. A Culture of Self-development

Are you interested in growing as a person while mastering your field? At Dharma Realm Buddhist University, education goes beyond academics. In your classes, you’ll dive deep in discussion, engage in reflective writing, and explore contemplative exercises. In the process, you’ll discover and learn to embody wisdom from some of history’s greatest minds. Outside the classroom, a culture of self-examination and thoughtfulness continues to support your inner journey every step of the way. Check out this short video to hear from some of our students about the transformative nature of a DRBU education.

2. Meaningful Connection

The small class sizes and contemplative nature of a DRBU education means our students feel genuinely seen and valued. You’ll naturally build long lasting friendships with your peers and truly meaningful relationships with faculty and staff. Discover more about DRBU’s caring community

3. Serene but Vibrant Location

You’ll find DRBU nestled among scenic hillsides and vineyards. It also shares a 700 acre, peacock-adorned property with one of the largest Buddhist monasteries in the United States. This unique, tranquil setting perfectly complements the deeply reflective nature of your classes. But connection and adventure aren’t far off! The town of Ukiah boasts a robust community of creatives, an award-winning hospital, and a beloved local coffee shop, Black Oak. The campus is also just 30 minutes from redwood forests, an hour from the California coast, and two hours from the San Francisco Bay. Get to know our campus.

4. Debt-free Education

We believe that education should create freedom, not burden. That’s why we don’t include student loans in our financial aid packages. For you, this means graduating without student loan payments weighing down your future! How is this possible? Learn about financial aid at DRBU

5. Personalized Classes

At DRBU, you aren’t just a number. You’re an essential part of the classroom. Each class is a collaborative learning experience where the education is co-created by students, the texts, and the faculty. Discover more about the “shared inquiry” model of curriculum and what it means for you.

6. Distinguished and Supportive Faculty

Our distinguished faculty combine credentials from top-tier institutions like Stanford, MIT, and Columbia with a profound dedication to your personal and academic development. 7. Delicious Vegetarian Meals

Does having freshly made, vegetarian food included in your fees sound too good to be true? At DRBU, we understand that students often struggle to find the time and resources to both eat and study well. That’s why we’ve decided to take this concern off your plate.

8. Student Satisfaction

Every year, DRBU sends its students an anonymous survey. Of the graduates who chose to respond over the last 5 years (27 out of 78 students), 97% have expressed satisfaction with their education, with 81% expressing strong satisfaction. Beyond gaining knowledge in their fields, students often report: finding a true sense of purpose, developing transformative interpersonal skills, and gaining a much deeper understanding of the world around them.  But don’t take our word for it…hear directly from our students about what made their time at DRBU so special.

9. Rich Arts Programming

At DRBU, creativity flourishes at the intersection of art and contemplation. Between weekly pottery workshops, lectures from visiting artists, and the programming made possible by the DRBU Arts Initiative, you’ll have a wealth of opportunities to develop and showcase your artistic talents.
